Audio Technica Boundary Microphones

Audio Technica Boundary microphones or PZMs (pressure zone microphones) work by exploiting the changes in sound pressure as a sound reflects off a hard surface. Quite simply when a sound bounces of a hard service the sound pressure doubles meaning that any microphone within the immediate zone will have a higher output.

These characteristics in sound pressure mean that Audio Technica boundary microphones are ideally used in a contained area such as a meeting room where they are directly placed onto a hard reflecting surface such as a table, floor or wall. Its this hard surface and the boundary of the room that makes the microphone work. Typically these microphone capsules are very small and housed in a low profile metal housing.
